Call for Nominations: MAGICS Research & Creation Awards

MAGICS is launching the MAGICS Research & Creation Awards to celebrate the diverse ways the infrastructure supports academic publications, artistic projects, and productions. We now invite researchers, artists, students, and technical experts to submit nominations for work that has utilized the MAGICS facilities, equipment, expertise, or collaboration networks to create impactful work.

Award categories:

  1. Best MAGICS Academic Output (2 000€). Peer-reviewed paper, conference paper, publication, or equivalent research output.
  2. Best MAGICS Artistic Project or Production (2 000€). Artwork, performance, exhibition, production, prototype, or artistic research output.
  3. MAGICS Collaboration & Impact Award (1 000€). Output with strong cross-node, industry, cultural-sector, or societal collaboration.
  4. MAGICS Emerging Contributor Award (1 000€). Student, doctoral researcher, early-career researcher, artist, or technical contributor.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Output published, premiered, exhibited, performed, released, or completed after December 4, 2025.
  • Significant use of MAGICS infrastructure, facilities, equipment, data, technical expertise, or cross-node support.

Nomination:

Please prepare the following information for nomination:

  • Names, affiliations, and email addresses of contributors
  • Title of the nominated work
  • Relevant award category
  • Description of the role of MAGICS in the work
  • A short justification (maximum length is 1500 characters)

All nominations must be submitted by October 20, 2026.

Self-nominations are welcome.

Selection process

Following an eligibility review, nominations will be assessed by the MAGICS Academic Board. Board members with conflicts of interest will not participate in the evaluation of relevant nominations. If one award category has no strong candidate, the Academic Board may redirect the amount to another category or withhold the award.

Announcing the winners

Award recipients will be announced at the MAGICS Gala on December 16, 2026, at Tampere University.

Whether your work advances research, creates new artistic experiences, builds novel collaborations, or demonstrates innovative uses of infrastructure, we encourage you to submit a nomination!
