Presentation of a Project Proposal: Environmental Diagramming by Alex Arteaga

This MAGICS event is arranged at the University of the Arts Helsinki on 3rd of November, 13-13:40 with a presentation and a Q&A. The event can also be joined online.

“Environmental diagramming” is an artistic research practice conceived by Alex Arteaga in order to inquire into experienced environments in a non-reductive way. Developed within the theoretical framework of the enactive approach to cognition, this practice aims to identify the sensorial and emotional qualities that constitute an environment, their degrees of presence and significance, and the ways in which they relate to one another.

The proposal of development in the context of MAGIC consists in creating a VR- and XR-interface that allows for a smooth and effortless realization of diagrams in real time within the environment—that is, while experiencing it—and a haptic and kinesthetic interaction with the resulting diagram.

The realization of “environmental diagrams” supported by this new technology will be efficiently incorporated in fundamental and applied research related to, among many others, sensorial experience of natural or constructed/composed/imagined environments, stage design, architecture, urban planning, urban design, and in participatory processes of urban and landscape transformation.
